The importance of enjoying what we have now | Emily's 3 favourite 'ordinary moments'





I hope that you're all able to relish and delight in this glorious sunshine that we're being treated to. My factor 50 spray has made an appearance (please let me tan!) and this injection of Vitamin D has given me an extra lease of life!  


It's been a busy week in-store.. Last week witnessed our second successful Blogging workshop of 2016 with super blogger, The Online Stylist and this week we're looking forward to having 'jean queen'; Donna Ida in-store for personal appointments at the Hero Denim Clinic.

So, today I am sharing three of my favourite weekend activities which instantly sprang to mind when I thought of contented times. These are of course enhanced even more so on days like today.






I don't know about you, but every once in a while I feel a wee bit overwhelmed by life, often out of the blue. Instead of getting caught up and immersed by everything going on, I hault myself in my tracks and revert back to basics, back to my core, and remind myself to enjoy the simpler things, to be grateful for what I have now






Just over a year ago my boyfriend, Brett and I added a dog to the mix and although a big commitment, we’ve not looked back. Mabel, or Mabs as she is more commonly known, is the cutest (clearly not biased in the slightest!) little, chocolate cockapoo whose highlights glisten in the sun and eye-lashes will make you envious! She is a ray of light who takes my mind off those unexplainable things which previously pestered me unnecessarily. I would highly recommend adding a little 'pooch-er-roo' to the family! 









I'm sure that for most of you Friday is the gateway to your weekend ~ hooray! Your time to enjoy doing just what you like; seeing friends and family; enjoying the ordinary moments which encompass a whole variation of happenings.


My weekend activities vary week-by-week, personally I like to be busy and spontaneous but a little bit of structure does me a world of good sometimes. I'm certainly not old and I know I have many wise years to gain, but if I think back to how I perceived life when I was 21, today is a whole different ball game.  



I'm more mindful that life is a whirlwind, so I subconsciously try to enjoy each and every moment without letting my personal journey pass by under my's all about making memories with things that spark good energy... enjoying a walk in the park; watching friends get married; spending 20 minutes savouring a morning coffee in the garden or achieving a new personal best for 5K.







1. A lazy walk along Highcliffe beach to Mudeford

I don’t know about you, but as much as I relish the idea of a lie-in, it seems my body only really requires one once in a blue moon, or perhaps it’s because the older I get, the more I realise the importance of enjoying time for what it’s worth. 


Fresh air, a splash of sunshine, rock skimming and a lazy brunch are on the agenda...


Brett, Mabel and I jump in the car as early as possible; pick up a take away caffeine kick en route to fuel any blurry eyes and enjoy that euphoric feeling of getting up and out!




We park at Highcliffe Castle car park and take a peak at the elegant fortress and it's delicately maintained gardens before sauntering down the steps onto the beautiful beach (there is a nature reserve along the top of the cliff if you prefer a non-sandy route). We take a long, leisurely stroll to the West, along Avon beach, towards Mudeford, usually with a brunch pitstop on our return at The Noisy Lobster, before ambling back.


The beaches are dog friendly, however it's good to bear in-mind the slight restrictions over the Summer months...

1st May - 30th September: Dogs are only allowed on part of the beach but can be walked along the promenade on a lead.

1st October - 30th April: Dogs are permitted across all beach areas.


Top tip: Set off early to avoid traffic around Lyndhurst.

 2. A relaxing Lunch or Afternoon Tea in the beautiful garden at The Honeystreet Cafe




I was introduced to The Honeystreet Cafe on my birthday last year, prior to setting off on one of the most relaxing holidays to date; a week on one of Moonraker's canal boats.... Sauntering along in the English sunshine (the heatwave of 2015!) with bubbles in hand, picking up local produce en-route and watching sunsets from different destinations each evening ~ BLISS! 


I loved Honeystreet from the get-go because of it's beautiful rural setting, delicious food ('to-die for' homemade cakes) and quintessential English garden.





 It's situated next to the mooring of Moonraker Canalboats (a luxury wide-beam canal boat holiday company), located right on the edge of the Kennet and Avon Canal in the heart of the Pewsey Vale.  







From the moment I enjoyed my first foodie delight it became clear they were seriously passionate about food. Their locally sourced, seasonal menu is compact and changes often; something which I admire and find appealing (that and i'm awful at making decisions!).


I haven't been for a while so i'm very much looking forward to reminiscing over the fun of last year's holiday, with a 'spot of lunch' in the sunshine today.







3. Simply. Baking and Cooking


There is something fabulously therapeutic about creating good food for friends and family. I love watching them savour the love and energy that has gone into creating and making each dish. 


As BBQ season approaches I am really looking forward to having the patio doors open, hearing the murmur of joyful, social encounters and scent of delicious smells flowing from the kitchen through to the garden. 


I have spent the last 6 months eating hearty food to feel some warmth in my bones! Now that the sunshine is hopefully here to stay, I cannot wait to adorn my 'salad' head!

There is something incredibly humbling about embracing and enjoying the ordinary. As individuals our fondness for ordinary moments no doubt differs greatly and this is why it's essential to "run your own race" ~ our motto through and through at Hero.
