It's been a while, but i'm delighted to say 'The Hero Blog' is back and we're looking forward to sharing regular content with you on a weekly basis from here on in. Excited? We are!
This week i'm chatting all things denim and the dream - finding those perfect jeans to kickstart your capsule wardrobe.
At the start of each season we earmark some key time to re-organise our wardrobes. It's become more apparent over the last few weeks that our high Summer pieces are sadly no longer needed. Having a selection of seasonal items cluttering a wardrobe is as good as useless, especially if you struggle with what to wear of a morning 🙋🏼.
I will share some in-depth capsule wardrobe must-dos and how to create yours, further into the season. However, today i'm just touching on denim, as we believe your capsule wardrobe should commence with denim at the heart and soul. There are more than a few reasons it sticks around - versatility, abundance of styles; shapes and washes are powerful and enable you to denote your style.
When looking to the season ahead you want to begin with a clean slate. Emerging all of your jeans together with some boldness in mind - if you haven't worn them, or even thought about them in the last six months, then why do they still maintain a valuable space in your wardrobe?!
Jeans are very personal…some of us prefer low waisted, some high, however, we all have one thing in common and one ultimate goal - to look and feel great in our chosen pair/s.
Do your current jeans give you that zigga’ zigga’ ah! feeling? We’re talking “I look in the mirror and feel bold about my silhouette" kind of chat? If not then we've got the answer further on!
Being fashionable doesn't mean following trends. It’s about feeling comfortable in yourself; dressing for your body’s structure and knowing what works best for you. In-store i’ve recently heard: “skinnies are no longer in fashion”, well, they may not be plastered along the runways but they're certainly not going anywhere!
It’s also totally OK to be unsure about what shape works for you - no shame in that whatsoever… I should think a large percentage of the population feel the same but don't want to reach out and ask for help because as women we often feel as if we should know, when in reality we weren't all born a stylist!
DENIM AT HERO
At Hero we stock DONNA IDA denim, a brand created by DONNA IDA in 2012 - you'll discover what drew Donna to create her own denim brand, below...✨
Time and time again guests visit Hero on the hunt for a fresh pair of jeans, and leave delighted with one or two new additions to their wardrobe.
We’re really hands on in-store and have been trained to expertly fit jeans ourselves. The excitement of introducing someone to a new pair of jeans, a pair which give them that ‘WOW!’, is exhilarating..
This season the team are most looking forward to receiving the Sidney jeans in Blackest - having had the blue wash earlier on this season, we know their versatility well - wear with boots, trainers, pumps.... and pair with a chunky knit - oooh lovely!
SIDNEY IN BLACKEST - IN-STORE FROM 23RD SEPTEMBER
Alongside Donna's denim we also stock her IDA cashmere. One of our current favourites has to be the ONSTAGE CASHMERE KNIT IN RAINBOW LUXE (see below).
IN CONVERSATION WITH DONNA IDA
What made you want to create your own denim collection?
A continued frustration at not finding what I was looking for. It wasn’t out there – IDA jeans had to be born.
Tell us about the benefits of high waisted jeans and will these remain your primary focus?
I can’t see us ever moving away from the high waisted profile, it is the core of the Donna Ida girl. Why not celebrate the iconic waist? They do everything, improve your posture, make you stand up straighter, make you look taller and slimmer. No muffin top. It is the winning shape!
Is it true that you should always buy jeans one size smaller?
In essence they should be tight, you should have to wriggle in, they should not gape at the back and they should be flat and smooth across the front.
Which jean style elongates the legs?
Anything with a higher waist! Think about all that added leg – it’s a trick of the eye.
Which jean styles best flatters a pear shape?
The IDA Rizzo works on a pear shape EVERY time. It bring everything in, elongates the leg, lifts the bum. It’s just a great jean.
What boot style works well with the Kitty Kat kick flares?
Ankle boots look great with it! An ankle boot with a low cut front is also very flattering on the leg.
What’s your favourite style of jean?
A high waisted crop or boyfriend. The IDA Boy Dazzler is a big favourite!
Just for fun…
How do you take your coffee?
One thing you can’t leave the house without?
Who is your style icon?
Pandora Sykes always looks cool.
Favourite way to unwind:
Where do I begin? Anything edible.
